BCC 2025 Round Two – Saturday 12 July 2025 – Pandy
Ladies and Gentlemen,
With my apologies for the delay in getting this report out (we really like to do this inside a week if possible), I am pleased to confirm that all with all of the flights processed, the scores are out from the superb second BCC round of the season.
Once again let me express my sincere thanks to Stuart Blackburn and the SE Wales HG and PG Club for offering to host BCC rounds to coincide with the much-anticipated Magic Bash. The weekend was superbly organised and the BCC and Bash complimented one another beautifully, augmented by the splendid weather.
And so it was early on Saturday morning under blue skies and building heat (the definite theme of the weekend), 88 pilots and supporters assembled at the Glanusk campsite, which also doubled as BCC HQ for the weekend being the splendid venue for the Bash, to be treated to another superb brief by Dennis Trussler. This was preceded by Will Rice being awarded with his thoroughly well-deserved Spirit of the BCC award from the 2024 season. Thereafter, with conditions expected to improve throughout the day, vehicles were repositioned, and pilots made their way up the hill.
The round is being written up collaboratively for Skywings (thank you Viv Fouracre), so I will keep this summary to the stats and scores only and let others tell the flying story of the day.
Of the 88 pilots who signed to fly that morning, an impressive 79 posted scores and even more impressively 30 of those scores earned Pilot Development (PD) prizes for their endeavours, which goes to reinforce that competitive participation is a super catalyst to
development.
Of those PD flights, ten were First Ever XCs, with a notable mention being the super 44.30km from Kaan Ucele of SW Wales. Another ten of the PD flights were overall Personal Bests (PBs), with the two best scores of the day going to Marco Altibrandi (a superb 113.30km) for SE Wales and Jacek Palczewski (101.80km) of Condors, with the latter being the top score of the day due to him being on an EN B wing.
Note. If any pilot has inadvertently not claimed a PD prize or claimed the wrong PD prize (that does happen), please let me know and I can make amendments as required.
And so on to the scores for the round. Continuing where they left off from the first round of the year, another solid team performance saw the 1,000 points go to SE Wales Red, aided by Marco’s PB flight. Not far behind In second place with 955 points, powered by PB flights from Martin Burke and Ric Harwood, were Crickhowell Paragliding. And in third place, with 627 valuable points, were Condors Blue. All of the 17 teams taking part posted scores making it a round with something for everyone.
After two rounds, SE Wales sit atop the leaderboard with a perfect 2,000 points. However, not for behind with 1,836 points are Crickhowell Paragliding who are making their mark most impressively in their first BCC season. So, with two superb rounds completed, there is still everything to play for, starting with the next round at Pandy for day two of the Magic Bash.
