Narrative

BCC 2023 Round One – Sat 27 May 23 – Pandy - Scores Complete (Finally) Ladies and Gentlemen, following on from my earlier post, I am pleased to confirm that we have the scores in from our first round of the year at Pandy, which was superbly hosted and organised by @DennisTrussler and the SE Wales club. This gives us our opening leaderboard with the rest of the season ahead of us. In 2022, North Devon held onto the top spot from the first round onwards. Will that be the case this year? So, what happened on that glorious Saturday at the end of May in the Golden Valley? The conditions were by no means as friendly as those from the previous day, which many of the BCC pilots had arrived early enough to enjoy (boating at 3,000+ ft in restitution at 1900). However, the conditions were still very usable and of the 93 pilots who gathered for the briefing, 70 logged a valid scoring flight of more than 5km, which is an excellent return on the day. There were two First XCs, so very well done to @DavidDarbyshire and Richard Mackie for achieving that key milestone. There were also four UK personal best flights, so take a bow @Christopher Begley, James, Malcolm Beard and Jeremy Perl and finally an overall PB for @Davepooley; nicely done! Many congratulations to all seven of them for making the best of what the day offered.Meanwhile the furthest (Turnpoint distance) flight of the day was 51.7km by @jonnyflyingfox of the Southern Club. The 1000pts went to @Benireland and and the UK Armed Forces South, with the Southern Slackers in a well-earned second place with 926pts and Wessex in third spot not that far off of the pace with 860pts. It was good to see that many teams got some decent points on the board, including the club second and smaller teams, which is a good sign of a rewarding BCC day out.
